96 dodge 4x4

So I have a 96 dodge 1500 extended cab with the
318 in it just put the new 4x4 actuator in it worked
then took it out of 4x4 but the light is stuck on.  
Now when I put it back in 4x4 it won’t engage

I have a 1996 Dodge RAM 5.9L with A/T, for my experience when shift to 2WD the 4x4 light stay on until the first turn, at the first turn the transfer case disengage and the 4x4 light turn off.
