Start 98 Dodge Ram 1500 after fuel pump replacement

I just replaced the fuel pump in my 98 dodge ram 1500 and now it will not start. there is
fuel getting to the fuel pump, because when i disconnected and reconnected it spat fuel
at me. What could be my problem, and how on Earth can I get this truck going?

I having same issue on a 01 dodge 5.2L Im getting fuel all the way to the rails i primed the system but pump would not stay running
