how do i know if i have a 4speed auto or 5 speed auto in my 4.0 ranger 1999

your gear selector should tell you , as with most auto trans youl have 123 then drive (4SPD) with a 5spd it should read 123 dive1 drive2 or d1 d2 hope i helped

I don't believe that a 5-speed auto was available in a 1999 ranger, so I would say a 4-speed. You could also get on an open straight away, floor it, and see how many times it shifts.
