the ECT (engine coolant tempurature) sensor is malfunctioning id say. its the master sensor that a gas engine uses till its up to the correct temp. If you have the Cummins, id start to look at your VP44 injection pump starting to go out. Also a cracked head wont cause a vehicle to die, but it can cause coolant and oil leaks.
