I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.9L automatic trans it
drives and shifts fine when driving down the road but
sometimes when at a stop it feels like it's in neutral and
revs up but wont move when I put it in park and start it
back up it takes off fine any ideas?

Sticky shift solenoids, dirty filter, bad fluid, misreading gear selector switch, transmission control wiring harness out of specs resistance wise.
Thank you for the ideas I'm going to have a shop look at it tomorrow morning just wanted some ideas of what it could be the transmission fluid is red still so must be one of the others listed
When an engine has to rev higher than normal before the automatic transmission connects, it's a sign of needed maintenance or a mechanical problem. First, check the fluid. A low fluid level is the most common cause of this, but filthy/contaminated fluid can also do this. A transmission flush and new fluid is pretty inexpensive to do, and will likely correct this. If the transmission has a filter, replace it. Next, if that doesn't correct it, you likely have a defective transmission shift solenoid. On some cars, they're mounted outside the transmission; on others, they're internal. If not a solenoid, you likely have a problem with the torque converter or a clutch pack at the planetary gears. This will require a transmission mechanic to diagnose and will probably lead to your needing a rebuilt transmission.
At a stop sometimes it will slip out of gear and revs up but wont catch.when I drop it into 2nd gear it catches and goes but doesn't slip while driving its and automatic transmission
