Fuel injection on a dodge

Asked by Sarah Jun 27, 2017 at 05:27 PM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9 motor is
getting the worst gas mileage ive ever seen.  I just
had the spark plug and wires replaced along with
the cap and rotor as well as new injectors and its
still running like crap.  Any ideas of what else could
be the problem?

Yes. There was 9 different codes and they all had to do with everything i just had replaced. Im not with the code reader anymore but from what i remember it was 2 misfires and 3 injectors were open and something about the system lean. All i do know is its dumpin the gas like crazy.

Somebody mentioned if there was a chance somebody put sugar in my gas tank..... I doubt it but is that how a vehicle reacts to sugar in the gas tank?

Probably not sugar. https://www.thoughtco.com/sugar-in-a-gas-tank- reaction-609448

System too lean can be cause by the things you replaced, and it can be caused by low fuel pressaure and vacuum leaks at the intake, I don't know who your mechanic is but if you had 3 injectors open it's highly unlikely that the car would be driveable. For you to test a mpg concern

Did you make sure that you got the spark plugs right if you didn't Gap them it might be a good idea to check them don't count on the factory to get your spark plug gap right
