IS MY MOTOR BLOWN?? Please help

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L V8
One day I was driving down the interstate and my truck
started shaking and wouldn't go over 40 mph. So I had no
choice but to put water in it and drive to the nearest
mechanic shop. When I got there after 30 hours they told
me my motor was blownup. So I drove it back home about
not going over 40mph it took about 1 hour i got home and
parked it.  So at this time it sat for a couple weeks and I
had a friend of a friend come and check it out, I told him
that the mechanic shop told me the motor was blown and
he agreed..  so a week later i started the truck and it takes a
second or two to start up and every once in a wile it pops
coming from under the hood, it runs just a tad louder and
doesn't shake nearly as bad as it was when it first happend
so I have a hard time believing that it was the motor in the
first place. And I've had several people told me that it's not
the motor it might just be an oil pump so Please help I am
ready to pull my hair out with this.

What led those who said ur engine was "blown" to say that? Something obvious, million dollar scanner's advice, loud mechanical noises, what???

He said because it was shaking and loud. I had someone come and look at it today and he said i needed a new oil pump! I'm not sure but I'll try it.

Your friends are going to spend all your money on random repairs. You really need an actual diagnosis before replacing random parts. What exactly did the mechanic tell you?

Shaking n loud is an extremely vague diagnosis. FOR's got the rite idea, stop firing the parts cannon at your marvel of technology n get a proper diagnosis. You need to be or see a technician first. Sometimes even the "pro's" have to guess, but it's rare and as a bonus, it's bad business.

Okay so today this mechanic came over and told me that I needed to change the oil because it's over half way to full. Does that sound like it would be my problem help please

You're saying...I'm low on oil is that causing shaking n loud??? Add some oil n see if it goes away. If there's too much oil, drain some off. Could it cause your symptom...anything's possible. Hit n run diagnoses, while new, are like assembling a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle of a black hole. No details, only featureless pieces with no detail.

I wish I would have seen this back when you posted it. If journalists still have the truck, and same problem persist, maybe even not run now...transmission filter...sounds stupid..but its pro en...almost sold a nice 01 for scrap until someone told me. 13 dollars later, I sold it for 2500.
