Not getting fuel to the engine

Asked by Kelli Dec 07, 2016 at 02:45 AM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My question is can a bad alternator
cause the fuel pump not to pump the
fuel to the engine? Or could it be a
clogged fuel filter? When you tap on
the tank as somebody turns the
ignition the truck will start it'll run for a
little bit and then it's like it's losing
power I guess.  it's running but you
push the gas pedal and it goes
nowhere and then the battery dies.

Sounds like it needs a new fuel pump.

Very low voltage could stop the fuel pump from working but banging on the tank making it start indicates a bad pump.
