2005 Dodge ram 1500 SLT with a hemi engine: back left axle/hub/tire has give of 1/4 inch/ knocking

Asked by Dking8615 Dec 20, 2016 at 02:21 PM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Dodge ram 1500 SLT 4 x 4 with a hemi
engine. My back left tire I removed at a tire place.
They showed me that the hub when grabbed (the
thing with the lugs that the lug nuts go on) has give.
Slides in and out maybe 1/4".  Said I needed to
open up the housing and get it cleaned out. They
said someone needed to take a look inside.   Also,
when driving, I hear a knocking from the back of my
truck. Especially when I take my foot off the gas or
am driving a little slower.  So I'm not entirely sure
what's wrong.

It sounds like you have a problem with the differential and maybe wheel bearings. Get it fixed right away as that could strand you or be dangerous.
