No a/c - orifice line freezing up

Asked by JJJagg19 Jul 22, 2017 at 11:57 AM about the 2006 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 06 Dodge ram 1500 v6. I had to replace
the evaporator coil, accumulator and placed new
oil in system after I found a leak in the old coil. I
got my truck all back together and pulled a vacuum
for 2 hours, then charged system. But when I
turned on the AC the small line to the orifice
started freezing up. So I replaced the orifice line
thinking it was that but I am still having the same
problem. Any advice? It's very frustrating because I
live in South Texas and I need my a/c lol please
help!!

So the orifice filter tube was replaced? If so then you might still have contamination in the system and the filter is clogged up. Other pinch points would be the expansion valve stuck or frozen. I'd get a hot rag and put it on the expansion valve before opening the system back up unless you did not put a filter in already. Hope this helps.

@Brian, if the system has an orifice line or tube then I will NOT have an expansion valve. I wonder if you over charged it or if the orifice is plugged up with debris?
