Gas cap light won't go off

My car won't stay on, it says gas cap!!  I've checked
the gas cap an it's on but car won't stay on!!!  
Please help it's a 2006 Chrysler pt cruiser

The first thing you try is a new gas cap. Make sure the sealing area is clean and free of rust. Otherwise there is a emissions problem. You would have to get the vehicle scanned for Diagnostic Trouble Codes to see what it is.
