why does my 96 roadmaster drive and pushes for a while then stops so i have to turn car off then the gears will start working again and on going?

sounds like a transmission issue. I would check the fluid level first and top it off if needed. then check the color. (should be pink/red in the color) If the fluid level is not the issue but the color is brown and burnt smelling then it is time to get it to a shop.
