what would cause the car to surge between 45-50 mph, happens mostly when going up a slight incline

Sometimes it's as little as a broken vacuum hose, have your car scanned at an auto parts store. If the scan shows nothing electronic it could be just a loose or broken vacuum hose. Check around the PCV hose they often go bad with age
