1990 f150 wont start without screwdriver contact on solenoid

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've replaced starter and solenoid.  Replaced battery but it wasnt exact one suggested
due to lack of stock at my retail outlet. I can turn key ( no clicking) and then take a
screwdriver to solenoid and it will crank and run fine. Any suggestions as to what
problem can be?

There's a fault between the ignition switch and the solenoid, check the fuse block for a blown fuse.

Could be the ignition switch, the solenoid or the wiring between the two.

Is your key fob loose on the column? Sometimes screws will come loose and only prevent signal to the solenoid. We took our column apart and it was one loose screw not allowing the key to hit all the tumblers. Otherwise it could be a wiring issue between the solenoid and the key fob. If your solenoid is starting it when you bridge it, then your solenoid is most likely good.
