At least a 1/2 hole and drill it into the entrance to the cat because the pipe coming down from the exhaust manifold can be reused .. thus saving at least $50-$100 dollars ... plus .. it it turns out to be something else and not the cat you an always buy a self-threading plug for the hole

what a stupid question, that's cruelty to animals, if you drill a hole in it, it wont do its job buy a new one

Kelly, That's one of those "Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't" There's no way he could drive for any length of time without a cop stopping him, and giving him so long to get it repaired. I would do it just to make sure that's my problem ... then if I'm wrong all I need is a 1/2 pipe plug to plug the hole .
