Why did I suddenly lose power in my truck

I got in and started up my
2003 Ford F150 today, no
problem, but a few minutes
later while still parked it
suddenly shut off and when I
tried to restart it I had lost all
power to everything.

I should have mentioned my perfectly good battery was dead and it had shown no signs of problems before.
