steering noise

Asked by ram49golf Jun 10, 2013 at 08:48 AM about the 2001 BMW Z3

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I get a noise when I first start the engine. I think it is steering related. I turn the steering wheel and it is quite loud. After the engine warms up I can only get the noise if I turn the steering wheel more than 3/4 of a turn. Any ideas of problem or repair?

Powers steering pump is on the way out. Are you leaking fluid? Double check your reservoir to make sure. When was the last time it was replaced?

The pump you have on that vehicle may be starting to fail. The pumps for these vehicles are called luk 20 and the updated one is called luk 30 and will need the pressure hose for the new pump.
