motor performance

Asked by spartan21 Nov 09, 2008 at 12:14 AM about the 1985 Honda Accord

Question type: General

My '85 Honda Accord has 145,853 miles on it. I am wondering if you could tell me how many miles these cars can usually have on them before they stop running decent.

Hey there, your accord will go for a long time yet my friend. I've owned 2 Honda Accords, a 87 and a 93. My 87 I bought with 417,000 Km on it, it ran perfect then, still did before i sold it, it performed very strong, no ticks or knocking, great compression. My 93 I bought with 424,000 Km on it, It also ran perfect, performed strong, no ticks or knocks, great compression, did not burn any oil. The motors never were opened up for work on either of my Accords, not prior to buying or by me. All original Honda engineering going strong with almost half a million kilometers!! I've seen Honda's/Accords go till 700,000 Km on the original motors!! Honda builds the strongest motors out there, and most reliable!

That's "almost" accurate. The likelyhood of those cars running that many miles without replacing the timing belt is VERY UNLIKELY! In fact, they should be changed (on most HONDAS) every 60K miles. So, the boast of never going into the engine is suspect.

I forgot to mention that..... Yes I did replace the timing belts on both my accords as soon as I bought them, Because the previous owners had not replaced them for quite some time. And yes I know the timing belts need replacing on Honda's every 100,000 KM. BUT doing the timing belt is not opening up the motor, doing a head gasket is opening up the motor!!

I feel good when you have that vehicle.I too love 85 Honda Accord. ------------ gomez New Cars

If you do regular maintainance like I do, they should last quite a long tome. My 1976 LTD Ford with V-8C engine lasted just ovr 440,000 miles.
