Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It will always start up fine. I will drive a mile to 2 miles down the road then it will start to bog down if i push more down on the gas after a few seconds it will take off again. I have replaced the fuel pumps and fuel pump regulator. What do you sugest next?

There may be floating debris in your gas tank. When it gets stirred up it could be plugging your fuel filter. You didn't say anything about replacing the fuel filter. That would be the first step and then possible flushing your fuel tank and line.

The way I understand it my trucks fuel filter is in the frame rail its in a black plastic canister . The autoparts store tell me not to mess with that. That sounds weird to me I would think you should be able to change out a fuel filter the truck has 300,000 miles on it.

Also how long since your last major tune up? (Plugs, plug wires, dist cap, rotor, air filter, ect)

If that truck has 300,000 on it it definitely needs a new fuel filter. That could have been your problem all along. griggser

Direct wired from battery to pump and it then works

Either TPS is failing or you may have a loose connection at the pump.

Re remarks on this. Fuel filter is an easy change. Do not understand parts store advice no to change it. I owned a parts store and sold lots of these filters to DIY guys.

Change fuel filter, also you could have problems with your inertia switch. After i changed both my fuel pumps, my truck would still die sometimes. Found out my inertia switch actually melted and had to replace. You might just need to reset it? Idk but good luck dude

Remove fuel lines from top of old pump and discard it and tank and get another tank and new fuel pump
