1987 Ford Ranger 2.9 will not start

I have a 1987 Ford Ranger 2.9 engine - I was driving down the road and it
just stopped running - had the truck towed home -
Things we checked:
Its getting spark
its getting gas
we try and use starter fluid and still truck does not even start to start...  just
crank and crank...   any ideas?

Is it getting gas?It has 2 fuel pumps 1 in tank ,the other on frame .
