I have aquired 87 ranger 4x4. Auto tranny is out. Is it worth rebuilding?

I have aquired a 87 ranger auto 4x4 with a bad tranny. Are these trans worth rebuilding? This one quit on the owner all of a sudden and brother said fluid smelled burnt.

I rebuilt my '94 tranny and it cost me 1300 bucks just keep that in mind actually look for an 87 mustang tranny it should be the same i know mine was the exact same in a '94 stang
