will some body parts of an '86 fit an '89?

Question type: Car Customization

I have an '89 xlt lariat 4+4. A friend offered an 86 for parts and I'm trying to find out if anything is compatible between 7th gen. and 8th.

parts are definately compatable... you might have to change more than you want just for one particular part.. such as the headlights.. you will prolly have to change all the body parts from the fenders forward.. but really the only way to tell is park them side by side and compare the two

yes almost everything should interchange, but it depends what you have to replace, from the front of the cab back everything is the same from 1980 to 97 i do believem they kept the same body lines and only changed the headlight style and some of the interior, you can even use a rear window from 73 all the way up to 97, ive done it, its easy, but the last guy was right if you want the older headlights you have to change the fenders, hood, and radiator support, that is a pain in the rear, but it all works

So quick question. If I put a 1988 fender on my 86, everything will line up right? I want to get rid of my square headlights and get th”newer” ones.
