In 1971 on a big block 365 horse motor, which water pump is correct for restoration, long neck or short neck?

Dear fever69-- I had to think back a ways, but I remember the 1971 Corvette having a short neck. You can find some, including OEM pumps at Ebay.com. Good luck from Bovan.
