I overheated my 305 V8 won't start but does turn over doesn't sound like it has any compression will burned valves do that and is there a way to test the rings

Do a compression check. On first check do it dry. On second check add a little motor oil on top of piston and then to the check. If psi goes up on second check then you have ring issues.
