What type of bumpers were on 1974 Impalas?

We recently had a demo derby and one car was a 1974 Impala. The bumper has some fairly heavy duty steel in it and I was curious to know if that was stock or not.

In 1974 the bumpers in the Impala would have had the vertical 5mph safety bumpers, as 1974 or early 1975 was the first year for these. However, I doubt what you saw at the demo derby was stock. Sounds like someone added reinforcement before taking it out to the derby.
