Motor shuts off

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just put a brand new 383 stroker motor in my 1972
impala. When ever I back up in reverse or turn my
wheel fully to the left or right engine shuts off. Also
when I crank it up I have to give it gas for at least 5
mins straight just so it can stay on in neutral??

I’m thinking I might need to make the idle a little higher??? But if I do then I won’t get my lopy sound that makes havin a 383 worth putting in

You'll need to adjust the idle on the carb. To get the "lope" you sacrifice driveablilty. A 383 doesn't make it have a choppy idle, its about the cam.

Yea I hav a mild can in it, so I’ll just try to bring the idle up some. Thanks
