how can you tell if car was once a 409 car thanks jay

Hi Jay! There's no way to tell if it was EVER a 409 but you can tell what the original engine was. Go to http://www.1963chevrolet.com/tools.htm and input your Impala's VIN# and you should find what the original engine was in your car. Good luck!

is it stick or automatic? if it's automatic it's not a 409. 409 in 62 only came with 4 speed trannys. it's not in the vin.
