At idle I am getting a knocking noise from the smog pump next to the alternetor. At a high idle it disappears. does this mean the unit is on its way out. thanks

Hello, I'm not sure if it means the unit is on its way out, but knocking in an engine is never a good thing. I would visit a mechanic as soon as you can so that you do not risk doing damage to your engine. Best of luck! CarGrrl
