Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife was driving 4runner home from school and car started to overheat.  The A/C system stopped blowing cold air at the same time.  She stopped and added water.  Restarted car and engine temp returned to normal however A/C is sporadic in operation.  Sometimes it blows cold air and sometimes it doesn't.  Any ideas? Help! We live in Hell, I mean Houston. Oh well temperature are about the same in both places.

Thanks in advance,

Brian Finch

Hi BrianKF, I would suggest you have the compressor checked out. The overheating could've been caused by the ac clutch locking up and not allowing the waterpump to cool the engine block. When it starts going bad it will blow warm or hot air occassionally. Good luck!
