replace tail light assembly

Asked by vortexguy Jul 20, 2010 at 12:38 PM about the 1996 Toyota 4Runner

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do I remove and replace the tail light assembly on my 1996 4runner? It seems to be attached by two phillips-head screws but when I remove these, it will not come off.  There is clearly a trick that I am missing.  Thanks.

Yes, like Vortexguy said, pull hard. There are two tabs (usually there is two) that are locked into the body of the vehicle. After you remove the screws, just pull hard. You may have to wiggle it a bit while pulling to get it to pop out. Hope that helps.
