How do you get brake fluid to come out of master cylinder when bleeding brakes?

Asked by respectlife2 Jul 28, 2012 at 03:44 PM about the 1998 Toyota Corolla

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We replaced the brake pads on our 1998 Corolla and bleed the brake lines. No brake fluid is coming out of the master cylinder to refill the lines, only air.

If you replaced only the brake pads there is no need to open the lines but since you did try this. Make sure the fluid level is full in the reservoir and put a small clear plastic tube on all the zerks and then put the tubes into a clean small clean empty water bottle with about an inch of clean brake fluid in it. After you crack the zerks you slowly push the pedal until all the air is removed and then close the zerks and remove the tubes and job done. If you bled the reservoir dry then you can purchase a bleeder kit from the parts house for a few dollars and there are instruction in the boxed kit explaining the procedure, really easy.
