I'm not kidding, do this on a 25000.00 truck. Toyota said it is because of the drum brakes.
Yup! I have a 2004 and although the manual didn't say at that time (?), my parking brake sticks slightly in the cold. After a few miles and some heat, it works itself out. I've also found that it happens in warm weather to a lesser degree unless I do a thorough cleaning of the rear drums and their guts at least once a year! S'Ok though.... with 118K on the clock and not a single visit to the shop, I'll gladly accept that burden!
I guess I haven't read the owners manual fully yet but I have an01' that I just brought up from Texas this summer and haven't had any problems yet ! I also have a 90' in Nova Scotia that has 519 thousand km's on and have never had a problem with the parking brake on it either ! I use the parking brake faithfully ever time I park as well though ! I am thinking about installing a remote starter in my 01' now that I am in Fort McMurray with temps going to -40 in January and that will mean I HAVE to use the parking brake too !!
