Bouncing w/ check engine and VSC lights on

Asked by Guru9M7FDX Feb 01, 2023 at 03:20 PM about the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm reading the gas cap solution, but I'm wondering if it is something more...the
car is bouncing or coughing (kind of vibrating) when stopped or at slow speeds.
Any advise?  Thanks.

When an engine stutters, or shakes at low RPM, it's likely that it's just grossly out of tune. The stability light is on because the computer turned it on to try to help with the situation. I'm surprised the CEL isn't illuminated. Get your twenty year old car to a mechanic for detailed diagnostics. It might just require an extensive tune-up or it might need some engine repairs, like a timing issue.
