Engine slows when clutch engaged

When I clutch, the engine slows. No other issue with the clutch. But when I clutch and brake the engine dies because the clutch is pulling down the RPMs. My transmission guy has NEVER seen this before, so he is hesitant to replace the clutch.

I doubt this is a transmission issue. Probably an engine issue. Your engine may need a tuneup or perhaps the idle control valve is not working properly.
