I was told to use synthetic oil only in my 2006 honda accord. Then read owner manual and it says 5W20. Is that the same thing? Are there different kinds of 5w20?

Now I am really confused. Dealer trying to sell me service plan. Says I have to pay more for the plan due to my 2006 honda accord using synthetic oil only. But owner manual says 5w20. Car has 160, 000 miles. I guess I'm trying to find out if he is just trying to make money on me, or is there a reason I should use synthetic.

That's just it...... I have no idea what type of oil has been used thus far.......just bought the car. 4th owner. If synthetic was used in past, will it hurt anything to go back to regular 5w20?

Ignore the dealer! Just use the recommended oil, or if you have no oil leaks anywhere on the engine and want to pay the extra money for synthetic then go ahead. The dealer is just looking to rape your wallet as usual.

5w20 is the weight of the oil. They make "regular" 5w20 and synthetic 5w20. Synthetic(man made) oil is jst more expensive and supposedly better quality oil. The newer model hondas all recommend synthetic oil, but my girlfriend went and got a $20 regular oil change in her 08Honda accord that recommends synthetic as well n nothing has happened. Let me mind u that they say not to switch from synthetic to regular but she did n so far so good!!

I just bought a 2006 honda accord. Owners manual states to use 5w20 oil. The car dealer sold me a maintenance package that includes oil changes. Hi, My 2005 Honda Accord has died twice in the last week for no reason. Last Monday while going to leave work it wouldn't start and I didn't leave anything on, I had a colleague jump it (battery is only 4 months old by the way) and was able to drive normally until yesterday when I got in my car and again it wouldn't start. I have a 2001 honda accord and today my car wouldnt start up , i tried for about 5 mins then i stepped on the gas a little while i was trying to crank it and it finally turned over! My check engine light is on , i just had a few repairs on my car like changing front o2 sensor and brakes and oil change. My car has been hesitating alot in last few months. when i stop at a stop sign for example and then i press on the gas it takes awhile to feel like its normal full power til i step on it kinda hard then it shoots forward to normal. I had 2 codes coming up on my car , the mechanic cleared one when he changed out o2 sensor it was blistered (code had something to do with heating element) but he couldnt clear other code he was hoping in few days it would clear on its own after my oil change p1259 . any suggestions on what i may need this is my only transportation? 2 Answers
