Why is after market fuel pump different than the part in my 2007 chevy cobalt lt?

Asked by mrg33k1192 Nov 03, 2016 at 05:49 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I can't seem to find the pump that is currently in my car. The fuel pump that is
suppose to fit EXACTLY to my car is not the pump that is currently in my car
and I would simply like to know can this piece be removed and can the
aftermarket piece that is called for be installed!?

If the electrical and fuel connections fit and the pump fits in the tank then you should be good to go even if there are small differences. It it won't fit then you have the wrong pump.

Did you ever find out why the pump is different. I’m having the Same problem trying to figure out why the Fuel pump is different than the one that it calls for.

xYour Cobalt is probably a Partial Zero Emmisions Vehicle (PZEV) and is completely different than the replacements you have been seeing. I found that an AC Delco GF828 was the correct kit for my 2008 Cobalt LT. It has a seperate fuel filter assembly, a fuel filter assembly (with strainer), a Orifice-Fuel Reservoir Pump (with strainer) and a new o-ring seal for the fuel pump flange. These all fit into a plastic box inside the tank. The box has a hinged lid and you need to open it to install the pump and strainer. The fllter in the box is easy to change and the Orifice-Fuel Reservoir Pump (with strainer) just hangs on the side of the box.

The third line of my previous answer should read " It has a seperate fuel filter assembly, a fuel PUMP assembly (with strainer), a Orifice-Fuel Reservoir Pump (with strainer) and a new o-ring seal for the fuel pump flange.

I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT the fuel line was leaking underneath the driver's side. I took the fuel line out from where it tied into the motor and I disconnected it under the back by the fuel tank put the new one in and then I broke the one fitting that it goes on to the fuel light. So I dropped the fuel tank thinking I can replace that whole flange assembly with the new fuel pump but they didn't have it so I put it all back in and they sold a repair and for the wine. all that was fixed I got in the car started it the wipers are on high speed they went crazy!!!! With the wipers going crazy the car shuttered a lot and then died but not start with the wipers on. Even though the wiper switch was in the off I had to pull the wiper relay so the wipers would stop and then the car would start ever since then this happens when the wipers are on the car dies. my question is I took it all part again drop the fuel tank I changed the fuel pump relay and then I noticed inside the tank where the pump is it's all burnt black or on the red spot where it plugs in. Is there some way that the wipers being ON is tied into the fuel pump running?..... I replace the wiper motor the wiper switch the wiper relay the fuel pump relay that's as far as I didn't know helping somebody could give me some information as to why when the wipers are on the car shutters and dies. The wiper only has one speed also now just medium it doesn't go low medium fast.please help
