Rear seat braces

Can you eliminate the braces on the side in back
(rear seat goes over) the car I'm working on is
1972 chevelle

You probably would reduce the stiffness of the body which was not all that great to begin with. If you are adding HP I would not even think about it.

Can't imagine why you would want to, unless it's to remove weight, but it's such a small amount of weight and car needs it for structure. You can shave weight in a lot of other areas (fiberglass panels, alum wheels, fuel cell, etc.)
