engine block #

Asked by GuruWRXX1 May 20, 2018 at 11:50 PM about the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle

Question type: General

IN my search for a 69 chevelle I found one in Illinois however the engine block id number puzzles me. It is C9714873 and I'm pretty sure I took it down correctly. I cannot find any big blocks in that era with such a block id number. Can you help please

Being a Chevy engine the stamped number on the Engine Pad should begin with a "CE". Make sure you are looking at the stamped number and not a casting number.

Ken: As best as I know the engine ID number is above and to the left of the timing chain cover or behind and towards the bottom of the alternator. Is that correct?
