i have a 96 legacy making some lifter noise...I was told the lifter collapsed

its ez to get a mechanicaly adjustable rocker arm assembly from a wrecking yard. You certainly dont need a new engine. Also the idiot "o-ring" inside the oil pump can cause the same symptom by slightly lowering the oil pressure. The oring never gets replaced when the waterpump-timing belt are reolaced... but it should be replaced each time. Takes all of 10minutes and costs $2.20even at the dealer. A new engine? Dont think so.
