Brake pedal going to floor

Have a 1998 subaru legacy wagon rhd roughly
122,000 miles. Today i stopped to deliver a pkg
when i was backing down out driveway no brakes
pedal went to floor had to use emergency brake
they had been soft once or twice before. When  my
husband came to help me he qent to move and
brakes were still soft but wanted to try and get it
home by time had brakes like normal.
