Car died after the nois and battery light came on

Hello I was driving and all the sudden a fan flutter like sounds came on then
stopped and the battery light came on kept driving then lights started to dim
and five minutes later car went complety dead. could it be my battery or
alternator? or something else?

Either your belt broke to the alternator or your alternator is shot. I would check under the hood and inspect the belts. If all belts are still in place, I would charge the battery, start the car, and put a volt meter on the alternator to verify that it's not working. If alternator is putting out between 13.8-14.0 volts, then your battery is old and is not holding a charge.

thank you so much, I was thinking that it might be the belt too. I know my battery is old approx 3 yrs, but all the lights came on when I got home, just the car won;t start...so that was why I thought it might be the alternator. thanks for the advice I am waiting for my brother to check this out for me.
