Getting gas but not registering on the gauge correctly.

Once I brought a 2000 Cadillac STS with the same problem, about six months later the fuel pump went bad. After replacing the fuel pump the gas gauge worked fine. They are both GM cars, but I don't know if this would be your problem or not. My fuel pump was located in the fuel tank which was a pain to replace.
