How do you get to the starter motor mounting bolts?

Asked by Wolfmarco Jun 21, 2013 at 12:49 PM about the 2002 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 audi A4 quatro, 1.8 litter, when i tried to start it the engine does not turn neither does the starter the only thing it does is a little click when i turn the key, all the lights come on like they're suppose to. I jump out the terminals in the starter straight to the battery and it is still not turning. im thinking its the starter. How do you get to the starter motor mounting bolts?

Can you see them?...try to remove what's blocking your view from them...what you need to do is if it is tight use a box-end wrench...and if they are back a spell use a big long extension bar with a swivel socket (probably 14mm)...13mm in that zone....this can be done, you must be able to see them, is all~

Damn. there's a chance that the motor is locked up...put it in gear (manual transmission) and put the handbrake off and have someone push the car...the the motor will turn and we can rest assured that the motor isn't LOCKED up....which is bad.

there also is that you're asking grandpa to do the heavy lifting...in other words your battery is OLD, get a new one. batteries will stop accepting a charge 10%/year...not to mention the added taxation to the Alternator...so yes, get a new battery....unless the motor is locked up...in which case I'll send you some flowers~
