A transmission problem maybe?

My car when it idols the rpm be racing really hard
and it takes a while to stop, what’s wrong?

Not likely a trans problem. More likely a sensor issue that is directing the engine to up the idle speed. CEL illuminating? If so (and maybe even if not) have the car scanned for trouble codes at a shop or parts store near you.
