More info: when you turn the key the dinging starts but no clicking or anything at the starter. This happens randomly. Can't jump start it. Leave it come back later ( 1/2 hr - 2 hrs) and it starts without other intervention. Any ideas?

I had the same problem and it was the crankshaft positioning sensor. I’ve had no problems since I replaced it.
