my car starts up fine, but when I put it in drive and press the gass it just jerks forward. I'm hoping that it's not a transmission problem

Reverse works fine no problem there just
when it's in drive

Can you still move forward at low speeds with your foot off the pedals, or with light pressure on the accelerator pedal?
