Multiple issues with 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, V6

Asked by williamsbobby2013 Jun 08, 2014 at 10:04 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Grand Am has started making a knocking noise in the last week when I turn on my AC.  I assume the compressor is going out but how can I be sure?  It still blows cold air (albeit only when I turn it up to max, a different problem?) but I don't want to wait on it to quit completely if it is going to do so I need to figure out how much it is going to cost to replace it.  Also, if I need to change the compressor how will it affect the rest of my AC system?  Meaning will I need a professional to adjust my cooling system if I have to change the compressor, or is this just a part swap?  Please advise, thank you.

If it is blowing cold ,and just starting to make the noise, you may need to go have it charged with a little ac oil,may save you from having to replace compressor.
