If the light looks similar to the one at the following link, it is your check engine light. You should try to go to Autozone where they will read the code for free, but I would not buy any parts based solely off of their scanner. that would be the check engine light, which means the ecu has stored a code

Check engine, go to auto zone & have them run a test and check the code.

So we have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, 2.2 litre. Bought the car, used it not even 24 hours later the battery light came on, did a multimeter test, showed the alternator was bad, bought a new one and changed. Worked good for approx a week. Now the battery light comes on and off.
