Asked by Patrick Nov 20, 2009 at 09:20 AM about the 2005 Pontiac GTO

Question type: Car Customization

Added a few extras on my 2005 GTO, pushing around 500 RWHP. Will I see future problems on the stock Drive Shaft? If problems are most likely to occur then instead of purchasing the $900.00 new one, is there anything I can do to maintain the stock one? Trying to save $$$ here. Thanks

The stock shaft is a weak link. IT is two pieces and has rubber coupler so you should upgrade it as soon as possible. I'm sure someone has a one piece unit for cheaper than $900 just make sure you have clearance around the exhaust. Next thing to beef up would be the rear end and half-shafts. The trans should be good to about 600hp if you have the 6 speed.
