why is gas leaking on top of gas tank

someone has overfilled the gas tank and the carbon canister has residual pressure that relieves itself when you put the cap on....this will toss up a check engine light for evaporative fault~

It leaks almost constantly with very little gas in the tank.

do not drive this vehicle....see if you can go under the car and pinpoint the leak....if your cannot find it have AAA tow you to the nearest service station~

Fuel pump. Same thing just happened to me. It sits on top of gas tank.
